South Cove County Park

Nice place. A little cramped in places but I like it here. Lake is especially scenic in this area. Staff very friendly and helpful and they keep everything up really well. However, there are many Canada Geese who leave droppings everywhere. It's difficult to take a walk and I won't go in the water cause it all washes down in the rain.

I'd call this the working family's campground. Most of the folks live close by, don't have brand spanking new campers, but still have a good time. While the campground is still renovating at this time, there are a few things visitors need to know. One of the most important things to know is the camping sites facing the beach area are SMALL. I do not recommend large campers with slide out to use these sites. The lots are not wide enough to accommodate the slide outs. I noticed several campers who were not able to completely extend their slide outs, and many camper's were dangerously close to traffic. Shade is lacking at sites number 16, 18, 20 15, 17, 19. This area reminded me of a retirement trailer park due to all the rock and lack of shade and grass. My lot, 16, could barely accommodate my 23 foot Crossfire. My picnic table was hanging out in the road. The lots on the north side are nicely shaded and book up quickly in advance. Big rigs will have to navigate carefully when backing into a site as they are very narrow. Only the very experienced should back into the lake-side lots as I can see a newbie backing their camper right off into the water. The primitive campsites lack privacy and are close to the road. The tent campers do have excellent access to the lake. The only hiking they will have to do is to the bathroom on top of the hill. One negative is the tent campers have to park their cars on the road which is an added challenge for the big rigs to navigate the unsupervised children running between the cars. Bathrooms are adequate although the toilets had a tendency to clog. The alcohol law is not enforced and the young children riding the bikes on the campground are at risk of being hit. Like it said this campground is for the working family. It's not expensive, and the kids seem to have a good time running rampant. For those who are wanting peace and quiet this is not the place for you. But for a family who wants to take the kids camping this place is perfect. The playground will keep the kids busy and the paved roads are excellent for bike riding, skateboarding and so forth. And one must not forget Hermit Thrush Nature trail. This easy to navigate short trail is a beginners bird watchers dream come true. The boat ramps are in good condition as is the fishing peer. All the facilities seem to be in good repair and are handicap friendly. If you decide to go remember they have squeezed in as many camping lots as possible, and some lots are challenging for larger rigs. Even if you had a smaller camper, I'd recommend reserving two lots to give yourself room for added gear. This park does have spectacular sunrises and the early risers will enjoy the view.

Beautiful place with great renovations. They've really upscaled their office and playgrounds. Great place for birthday parties, camping, or just pulling out to the lake.
