I'm not even going to mention the food. It's fine. Last time I was there, it took the 2 young ladies about 45 seconds to make my sandwich. I had to take a cup, add ice, put a lid on it, get a straw and then walk over and get my own chips off the rack.
I go to pay and am told to answer 2 questions on the card swiper. First one asks if the amount is correct. Second window pops up with choice buttons asking what size tip I want to donate, 10 percent and up.
Are they kidding me? I consider myself a good tipper for some kind of extra or courteous help at a sit-down restaurant. I hit none and got a very smarmy, "Thank you sir, have a great day." The sarcasm could have been mopped up off the floor.
This reeks of an attempt by the owner to supplement his payroll through intimidation and/or embarrassment. A lot of people feel guilty if they press "None."
Pay your help a decent wage and quit trying to strong arm your customers to help with your payroll. I'll bet that this tactic cost them customers. At least one, anyway. People don't like to be intimidated or coerced.
As an aside, Mama's coffee shop in Pineville started the same thing months ago, and they lost my business. I just saw they're now out of business.
